Check that the number is eligible
Eligibility depends on the number range, existing provider and service arrangement. Confirm portability before cancelling or changing the current account.
Prepare accurate account details
The losing provider’s account name, installation address, number list and supporting records must match. Small discrepancies are a common cause of rejected or delayed requests.
Plan associated services
Identify broadband, alarm lines, payment terminals or other services linked to the existing line. Porting or ceasing a line may affect them if they are not handled separately.
Allow for a managed changeover
Agree routing, test destinations and keep the existing service active until the port completes. Complex multi-number installations may need additional planning.
After the port
Test incoming calls, outbound caller identification, voicemail and routing. Update business-continuity instructions and retain confirmation of the completed transfer.
