Recognise a Cambridge 01223 number
Cambridge uses 01223 followed by six local digits for a standard geographical number. For callers outside the UK, write +44 1223 followed by those digits. Similar codes are not interchangeable: 01224 is Aberdeen, so check the whole prefix when publishing or requesting a number.
Cambridge is not a code for the whole county
Ofcom lists separate codes for places such as Ely 01353 and Newmarket 01638. A telephone area also need not match a council or postcode boundary. If your customer base is described as Cambridge and surrounding areas, give the provider the intended locality rather than rely only on a county name.

Review the number separately from your office setup
If you are moving premises or changing how a team answers, first check whether the existing Cambridge number can be retained. Then plan the destinations and call handling. A virtual-number arrangement can change where calls are answered without establishing a new physical office or proving an address in Cambridge.
Ask about a transfer before changing published details
A portability check needs the full existing number and provider information. Review linked services, agree a transfer date with the relevant parties and test incoming calls after the change. Avoid replacing established contact details simply because the answering technology is changing.

Compare the service, not just the prefix
Before ordering a new 01223 number, confirm availability, setup and rental, forwarding charges, included features and the terms for leaving or transferring later. A number that looks memorable does not by itself improve the way customers reach your team.
